Where have I been?

I have not been feeling very well.  Thursday I was so excited about getting my groceries delivered starting next week by Meijer’s, I think all the excitement wore me out.  LOL  Thursday night I was feeling a little off, on Friday I went back to sleep after the kids went to school, and Sergeant Happy went to work and I slept all day.  I had to wake up at 2:30pm so I could get ready to read to Ella’s class.  I read the book Always in Trouble, and then I was able to bring Ella home with me.  I did not get anything done I wanted to on Friday because I was so tired.  I was supposed to go get my nails done, bathe Jelly Bean, and go grocery shopping.  Did any of it get done?  No! So guess who got stuck going grocery shopping on a Saturday?  Me!

I feel much better today!  Still feel a little tired but haven’t fallen asleep since waking up this morning so that is a great sign!  I have been celebrating today.  I had to get my grocery list around, but this is the last time I have to go shop for it!  YAY!  Well I am home from shopping, and everything is put away.  I made a command decision we are getting Chinese for dinner tonight because I do not feel like cooking dinner now.  Ella and I did make chocolate chip cookies, and I made healthy granola. I will have to post the simple, and easy homemade granola recipe I found.

One more thing tonight before I sit down with a good book and take some me time.  Here is a picture I took of my daughter, and her American Girl doll.  They match and it is so cute!

I am a kid in a candy store…

I am so excited!  Meijer is starting home delivery using shipt!  Yes, it will cost $99 a year or $14 a month for free delivery on orders over $35.  I am in!  This will save me 2 hours a week, and it will save me money.  I go to the store with a list, but do I always stick to the list?  NO!!  I am so excited for this!  I am lucky that Sergeant Happy is 110% on board with getting a membership.  OK I will shut up about this awesome, exciting, new service I am going to use.. =)  (Jumping up and down)

A good parent…

There has been something on my mind since yesterday when a friend/coworker asked if I was able to volunteer at the school carnival.  I told her no because I didn’t like large groups of people like that.  I also informed her that I was planning on taking my daughter to the carnival that night.  Then in the middle of her flapping her lips I heard something to the effects of “its always the same parents that volunteer for everything”.  REALLY?!?  Last time I checked it wasn’t how much I volunteer that makes me a good parent, it is how well I take care of my children, and they have everything they need. This conversation still is with me today.  I would rather spend my time with my kids than away volunteering.  I work full time, am a part time student, and have kids in three different schools.  If I volunteered every time someone needed me I would never be home, and my kids would never have a home cooked dinner.  What is more important?  Needless to say I also have a husband who is a police officer, and things come up quick.  My husband, and I do our volunteering.  Sergeant Happy is active as a boy scout adult leader, I am assistant girl scout leader, and cookie mom, and I input coke reward codes for my daughters school.  I do not owe anyone justification on why I can not volunteer, or why I do not want to spend my whole life away from home volunteering.  I am a great mom, and my kids are happy!

Monday is such a beautiful day.

IMG_0618First things first, go to work.  I get to leave today at 10:00am to meet Ella’s class at Frederick Meijer Gardens, for her field trip.  Kids get really excited to visit the butterflies there, well not my daughter.  Ella is scared of butterflies, and really scared of butterflies landing on her.  My job as mom was to protect her, and get her through the butterflies as fast as I can without one landing on her.  Earlier that same morning I received my normal face time from Ella, and she was so upset with me.  “Why did you pick out this shirt for me?  It has flowers on it so the butterflies will land on me”.  So this is my daughter in my coat dodging butterflies.

We spent most of our time walking around, looking at sculptures.  I love hanging out with Ella, she is so much fun. If you have ever been to Frederick Meijer you have seen the huge horse sculpture, well I took Ella’s picture by the hoof of this huge horse, next I notice Ella looking up. I then tell Ella “stop looking at the horses wiener”, she starts giggling, well the horse is anatomically correct, and Ella figured that out.  LOL.

Ella and I decided the bunnies were crying because they have boobies.

My beautiful Ella!

The weather Monday evening was very nice.  The boys have boy scouts at 7:00pm on Mondays, but before that all the kids and I took the dogs for a walk.  The walk was nice until Ella rolled her foot off the edge of the pavement, fell, and rolled her ankle.  Poor girl cried, it hurt.  I am really proud of our kids, all the kids are really taking eating better seriously.  Logan has started running everyday, doing sit ups, and push ups.  I am so proud of my whole family.

What would my life be without Sergeant Happy’s job getting in the way?  The plan was for me to drop the boys off at boy scouts, and Sergeant Happy was going to get out at 7:00pm (his normal time), and head straight to boy scouts.  At 8:20pm I get a text from Sergeant Happy saying “I am walking out the door and will go get the boys when they are done”.  I then responded by telling him that they are done in 10 minutes, I will just go get them.  Well once again “I am walking out” means, I am walking out in 30 minutes.  I have to admit I was very upset, and informed him of it.  I told him I am sorry but my empathy bank is empty.  I feel like I get taken advantage of.  I told him I would have to get the boys so he didn’t walk out like he was supposed to be.  Monday night was one of those nights where I was feeling very overwhelmed, used, and not important.  I know better but sometimes its very hard to remember that.

Sunday, Sunday….

What a great weekend.  Friday I was able to spend the whole day while the kids were at school, with Sergeant Happy.  He took me to the dentist, shopping, and lunch.  The best part was the nap when we got home.  Then it was off to run a girl scout cookie booth at our local gas station, I love this time with my daughter.  I get to dance, wave, and hold a cookie sign on the corner with my daughter doing her crazy dances. Ella is so crazy, I think she is such a fun little girl.  I will say though, after standing on the cement for 3 hours, my left heal killed.  I have planter fasciitis in my left heal which can be very painful.

Saturday was very nice. Woke up with Ella, cuddled with her, and then wrote my grocery list.  Sergeant Happy, and I decided the family needs to eat healthier, this is difficult with our son, Mason because he is a very picky eater. We had a family meeting, discussing this with the kids.  We decided we wouldn’t stock chips, and snacks unless it is healthy.  Sergeant Happy went grocery shopping with me, which was very nice because normally I go alone.  We watched the movie Passengers, I thought it was a very good movie.

Sunday morning 6:00am means work, yuck. That means I need to wake up by 4:45am on a Sunday morning.  Sunday morning is a easy drive to work because hardly anyone is on the road, but it is hard to get out of bed when everyone else is sleeping.  I always get a face time Sunday morning when my Ella wakes up.  I enjoy our first face time of the day, it is the 2nd-5th that are rough.  LOL!  The good thing about working on Sunday is I get out by 2:00pm, and have the rest of the day with my family.  This afternoon has been very busy, I had watermelon, and cantaloupe to cut up.  I hard boiled some eggs, and made fruit pizza to.  Dinner was delicious, Sergeant Happy grilled some steaks.  I made salad, roasted green beans and mushrooms, and we had fruit.

Do you know what it means to have two boy scouts, one adult boy scout leader, and one girl scout?  It means a lot of time figuring out where badges go, and putting them all on.  I love this stuff called “Badge Magic”, it comes in sheets that I purchase at the boy scout store.  “Badge Magic” is a life saver, I don’t have to sew all the badges on.  I am grateful that Sergeant Happy helped me cut the badge magic or I might still be at it.  Sergeant Happy wasn’t in a very good mood earlier today, I am glad he cheered up.  Right now it is 8:20pm and I just got to sit down, and finish today’s blog post.  I love my life.

Thursday, my Friday!

It’s my Friday!

I work Sunday-Thursday, its my Friday baby!  At first the thought of working Sunday instead of Friday didn’t sit well with me, but after a few years of this schedule I like it.  I do miss my lazy Sunday mornings at home with my husband, but I enjoy being able to make appointments, and go grocery shop while the kids are in school on Friday.  In the summer it is nice to be home with the kids on Friday .  Tomorrow Sergeant Happy is off, so we have the day together.  I have a dentist appointment in the morning, then we are going to get Sergeant Happy some more slacks, shirts, and ties for work. Yes he is spoiled!

Thursday nights can get pretty hectic for me when my oldest son has PLC meetings for boy scouts at 7:00pm.   As an assistant leader for my daughters girl scout troop I need to be at the meetings which are every other Thursday 5:30p-7;00pm.  Today was one of those days, I can’t be two places at once.  We are lucky the boy scout cabin is 1 mile from our home so if I need him to my son can walk.  I received a text from Sergeant Happy saying he was going to get out of work at 6:30pm so he can get Logan to scouts for me.  A regular person would be less stressed and happy, well a LEO wife knows not to count on anything to go in her favor.  So at 6:42pm I send a text to Sergeant Happy making sure he left, well to no surprise he hadn’t, and was walking out in a “sec”.  Well I have learned that a “sec” can mean a lot of things, but it never means a second. LOL!  Well then I get another message apologizing, and telling me that a lady for a case called and he had to talk to her.  Well here is where I have to use empathy.  It is easy for me to think “once again someone else comes before us”, but I have to stop, and think.  This is an example of when it is hard not to get jealous as a LEO wife.

Spaghetti Bread YUM

This is a family favorite, would go great with a green salad.

Credit: Rhodes.com

  • 1 Loaf Rhodes Bread Dough, thawed to room temperature
  • 6 ounces spaghetti, cooked
  • 1 cup thick spaghetti sauce
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 egg white
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Parsley flakes

  1. Spray counter lightly with no-stick cooking spray.  Roll loaf into a 12×16 rectangle. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest 10-15 minutes.
  2. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions.  Drain and let cool slightly.  Remove wrap from dough.  Place spaghetti lengthwise in a 4-inch strip down center of dough.
  3. Top with sauce and cheese cubes.   Make cuts 1 1/2-inches apart on long sides of dough to within 1/2-inch of filling.  Begin brad by folding top and bottom strips toward filling.  Then braid strips left over right, right over left.  Finish by pulling last strip over and tucking under braid.
  4. Lift braid with both hands and place on a large, sprayed baking sheet.  Brush with egg white and spring with Parmesan cheese and parsley.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.  Cool slightly and slice to serve.

Detective Sergeant Day 1:

Well day one is in the books for Sergeant Happy, and his new role at work. Well the day started with us finding out Ella’s school is closed, due to no heat.  Now what?  My job has been less than flexible lately, due to restructuring. Sergeant Happy can’t possibly miss his first big day as Detective Sergeant.  We eventually figured it out, let the multitude of face times, and texts begin from Ella.  You have to love it when you get a text from your 6 year old daughter that says “I love you more than you love me.”. Really?  I could only face time her and say “never”.

Well, Sergeant Happy says “I get out at 5 today”, when the clock hits 5:42pm without him coming home or calling, I send a text asking if he has left yet.  Response “On my way love, getting in car right now”.  Well this text was immediately followed with a picture of his new badge and guess where its taken, his office.  So I responded saying that doesn’t look like your car, it looks like your office.. HAHA yes he incriminated himself!  Well he gets home a little after 6pm, and we have our first family dinner where we are all around the table together in awhile.  Was so nice!

Nothing beats a DANCE PARTY with my daughter, she is so much fun!  I whipped me a nae nae, moved it, and even sang to “ICE ICE Baby”.  Wow that made me feel old!  Yes I am 38 years old, and I still know all the words.  First evening home for Sergeant Happy, and he is Sergeant Crabby!  This is going to take some getting used to.  I am more laid back when it comes to noise and kids playing.  I have heard “quiet all I want is a little peace and quite”.  Sergeant Happy sure did love our dance party!  He loves that I know all the words to some old songs.  Last night when he came to bed a little before 11pm I was sound asleep and Ella fell asleep in our bed, he went to pick her up to move her to her room, I screamed he scared the crap out of me.  Not used to having someone home that early.

This blog is going to turn the rest of my hair gray!  I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get my recipes to categorize on there own page.  I spend minute after minute researching, and googling.  Still nothing.  I will figure it out though so please bare with me on that part.  Tonight I got to spend some me time reading my book.  Seems like all my spare time has been school or kids.  I feel like I have no time for fun lately.  I don’t think it is good when work is a vacation =)  Well that’s all I got today!
